What are the required carton shipping marks when shipping into the USA from China

Required shipping marks on master cartons

When shipping into the USA from China, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and international shipping regulations require certain shipping label markings to be clearly visible on the outer cartons (shipping cartons) and often on the individual product packaging as well. These are critical for customs clearance, accurate delivery, and regulatory compliance.

✅ Required Shipping Label Marks (Outer Carton)

Here’s what should be marked clearly and legibly on each shipping carton:

  1. Country of Origin

  • Must say: "Made in China"
  • Required by CBP for all imported goods
  • Must be in English and easily visible on each product and outer carton
  1. Shipper's Information (Exporter)

  • Company name and address in China
  1. Consignee's Information (Importer)

  • Name, company name (if applicable), and full U.S. address
  1. Carton Numbering

  • Format: "Carton 1 of 10", "Carton 2 of 10", etc.
  1. Gross Weight / Net Weight

  • Indicate in kg (kilograms) or lbs (pounds)
  • Format: G.W.: 12kg, N.W.: 10kg
  1. Carton Dimensions

  • L x W x H in cm or inches
  • Example: 50x40x30 cm
  1. PO Number or Purchase Order (if applicable)

  • Often required by the importer, Amazon, or logistics partners
  1. FBA Label (for Amazon shipments)

  • If shipping to Amazon FBA, each carton must include an Amazon box label (generated from Amazon Seller Central)
  • Must also follow Amazon FBA box content labeling requirements
  1. Handling Marks / Symbols (if applicable)

  • Examples:

  • Fragile
  • This Side Up (with arrows)
  • Do Not Stack

✅ Required Marks (on Products / Inner Packaging)

Each individual product (or at least its retail packaging) must have:

  1. Country of Origin: e.g., "Made in China"
  2. Brand Name or Manufacturer’s name (if applicable)
  3. Product Description or Model Number
  4. UPC or FNSKU Barcode (for retail or Amazon)
  5. Compliance Marks, if required:

  • FCC, UL, CE, or Prop 65 warning depending on product category

⚠️ Important Notes

  • Shipment refusal
  • Extra handling charges
