How have I been charged for 2 shipments at the higher tariff rate when they were part of the same shipment?

Why were shipments sent at the same time charged different Tariff rates.

Thank you for your patience while I looked into this matter. I'd like to provide some clarification regarding the tariff charges applied to your recent shipments that were shipped in April 2025. FYI, shipments that arrive

Although the shipments were created at the same time in your SKUdrop account, they were likely assigned to different Amazon FBA warehouses—often located in different regions of the U.S. Because of this, the cartons may have been split into different containers, each routed to a separate port and potentially placed on different vessels. These vessels may also have departed China on different dates, which is a key factor in determining the tariff rate. You are able to see what containers your shipments were in and the departure dates of the vessels in Tracking HQ within your SKUdrop account.

As you may be aware, the U.S.–China tariff changes introduced earlier this year significantly impacted international shipping costs:

  • February 2025: 10% tariff increase
  • March 2025: Additional 10% applied
  • Late March 2025: 25% tariff added on steel and aluminum products
  • April 5–9, 2025: Tariffs surged to 145%, applied on top of original duties and Section 301 tariffs

  • For some HS codes, the total tariff reached 170% for shipments departing China after April 9

In May 2025, the U.S. government announced a temporary reduction in the additional tariffs:

  • Effective May 14, 2025: For shipments arriving in the US on or after that dtaes the Additional tariffs were lowered to 30% for a 90-day negotiation period

  • This is in addition to existing duties and Section 301 tariffs

In short, if your shipments were split and left China on different vessels or different dates, it’s likely they fell under different tariff brackets based on their actual departure date, not when the shipment was created in SKUdrop.

I hope this helps clarify the discrepancy. Please let us know if you'd like us to review specific shipment IDs or if you need the 7501 forms for reference—we’re happy to assist.
