How to work out USA Duties and Tariffs

U.S. Customs calculates Duty and Tariff fees as a percentage of the total declared commercial value of the goods that are shipped.

Please note: The Trump administration has imposed an additional 30% Tariff on products made in China which is made up of a 20% Fentanyl Tariff plus a 10% additional Tariff, it is important that you remain aware of any changes that may happen to these additional Tariffs as they may change at any time.

Here is an example:

📦 Example Calculation

  • Per-unit value: $8.70
  • Duties & Tariffs: 57.4%
  • Scenario 1: 150 units = $1,305

  • Import Charges = 57.4% of $1,305 = $749.07
  • Scenario 2: 300 units = $2,610

  • Import Charges = 57.4% of $2,610 = $1,498.14

🔁 Keep in Mind

  • The unit cost declared to Customs must match your supplier invoice (commercial invoice).
  • Tariff changes, even mid-shipment, can affect what’s payable at the port.
  • You may save on per-unit shipping costs by consolidating, but the taxes scale linearly with commercial value.
  • There are additional Port fees when shipments enter the USA, they are a 0.12% Harbor

Maintenance fee and a 0.35% Merchandise Process fee, there may also be Credit/Debit Card processing fees.
