# How long is a CIC valid for?

## Validity period of a Commodity Inspection Certificate (CIC)

The **validity period of a Commodity Inspection Certificate (CIC)** depends on the **type of product**, **country of destination**, and the **purpose** of the certificate. However, in most standard export scenarios from China, here’s a general guideline:

---
### ✅ General Validity of a CIC:

* A **CIC is typically valid for 30 to 90 days** from the date of issuance.
* It is usually **valid only for the specific shipment** it was issued for — not reusable across multiple shipments, even of the same product.
* If a new **Commodity Inspection Certificate (CIC)** is required, the products will need to be **returned to the supplier’s location** so that a **re-inspection** can be conducted and a **new CIC issued**.

Unfortunately, a CIC **cannot be reissued remotely** or at a third-party location — it must be done **at the original inspection point**, typically the supplier’s warehouse.

This is a requirement set by Chinese inspection authorities and is necessary to ensure the authenticity and accuracy of the inspection process.

---
### 🧪 For Perishable or Time-Sensitive Goods:

* **Shorter validity**, often **30 days or less**
* Includes:

* Food products
* Fresh produce
* Chemicals with expiration concerns

---
### 🔋 For General or Durable Goods:

* Often **valid for up to 90 days**
* Includes:

* Electronics
* Machinery
* Fertilizer and non-perishable chemicals

---
### 🔁 Not Reusable Across Shipments:

* CICs are **shipment-specific**, meaning:

* Each new batch of goods generally requires a new certificate
* Even if the product and buyer are the same

---
### ⛔ Important to Note:

* Some countries' **customs authorities** may impose **stricter limits** on how old a CIC can be at the time of customs clearance.
* Always check the **destination country’s import requirements** or with your **freight forwarder**.
* **Please note:**
If a new **Commodity Inspection Certificate (CIC)** is required, the products will need to be **returned to the supplier’s location** so that a **re-inspection** can be conducted and a **new CIC issued**.
